Trying Something New for the New Year

 Tips For Improving Your Routines

On the road of self-discovery, I've learned that exercise and eating healthy are not optional if we are to age gracefully. It's also important to consider that any new plan, in order to be implemented successfully, must FIT into our lifestyle. It's a fact that the majority of resolutions are abandoned in less than 4 months because they simply don't fit.

In order to make room for success and keep on track, we need to rebuild the framework so that it fits our new routine mindset. For example, if you've decided to revamp a room in your home, why not redecorate it to include room for your new goals? As Charli Penn of Apartment Therapy said, "Treat yourself with your goals in mind, " and new behaviors will begin to replace the ones that no longer serve you!

If you suffer from tension or anxiety, and it starts the minute you start your day,  it could be your body shouting that it needs your attention. In her article, Kelly Burch, gives some pointers that you can do to give you a gentle boost at the start of your day. Here are a few of them:

1. Eat breakfast - low blood sugar can cause negative feelings that mimic anxiety

2. Don't over do it on the caffeine. - "Caffeine promotes and increases anxiety," says Moe Gelbart, PhD, director of Behavioral Health at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

3. Consider morning exercise - I like to either do morning stretches, jump rope, or take a brisk walk. Movement helps to get your body ready for the day!

4. Practice relaxation techniques.

5. Follow a workable morning routine that makes you feel good!

Here are some vision board ideas along with some great recipes to try if you also are trying to eat healthier as I am trying to do in the new year! It may help to know that you are in good company so find a friend who shares a similar desire to change up some routines and work together.
