The Peak of Fall Leaves In Pittsburgh North And Where Best To See Them

Interactive map shows when leaves will peak across U.S.

By CeCe Schantz October 5, 2023

Wondering when the color of fall leaves will peak in 2024 near Pittsburgh North and where best to see them?

David Angotti can tell you. He is a statistical expert and the co-founder of the site SmokyMountains.com. His love for weather, travel, technology, and the autumn season led him to begin developing a nationwide fall leaf map in 2013 after one Smoky Mountains visitor too many inquired with him when the leaves would be at their fall best.

What started as a fun side-project quickly became the most respected nationwide fall leaf map and one of the best fall resources in the country. Now, tens of millions of people use his map each year to plan everything from photography trips to weddings. But the most common users are simply people wondering when the leaves will peak near them, just like you're wondering when leaves will be at their best fall color in Pittsburgh North!

While not an exact science, the predictive map uses a complex algorithm that carefully analyzes several million data points and outputs approximately 50,000 predictive data pieces to determine when leaves will peak in each part of the country.

Check out the map below to see when the leaves will peak near Pittsburgh North or another part of the country. Simply move the slider along the bottom to see when leaves are expected to reach peak!.

Where to go leaf peeping in and around Pittsburgh North.

While at Macaroni KID Pittsburgh North we don't use scientific data to determine the best place to go to see fall leaves, we think we have pretty good intel!

Here are my family's top five places near or in Pittsburgh North to go leaf-peeping:

North Park

303 Pearce Mill Rd.

Allison Park, PA 15101

The combination view of the lake and the fall foliage from Lake Shore Drive is my personal favorite for a breathtaking view during the peak weeks of fall in Pittsburgh North! The view of the fall foliage on Flagstaff Hill is also impressive. There are too many trails to mention, but they all offer a great opportunity to enjoy this short window of time to peek in on what mother nature is up to as we head toward winter!

Blueberry Park

1604 Blaine's Way

Sewickley, PA 15143

Blueberry Park is a well-known spot for its great play areas, sports, and picnics, but some people may not know about the long stretch of walking trails that wrap around the perimeter of the park! The views are absolutely gorgeous, and it's also a great getaway if you sometimes prefer less of a crowd and need a solo walk to clear your mind or get some exercise while enjoying the view.

Moraine is a great place for biking, boating, or taking a brisk fall walk along its many scenic trails and 42 miles of shoreline! You can hike the Glacier Ridge Trail or sit along Lakeview Beach and take in the view. They also have cabin rentals available if you decide to make it a weekend trip!

Ohiopyle State Park

124 Main Street

Ohiopyle, PA  15470

Ohiopyle has endless gorgeous views of the changing leaves wherever you go! The combination of the trees and the rapids makes this an ideal location for photos and at least one guaranteed great picture no matter what your skill level of photography is! There are also great shops to stop and get lunch, or ice cream and great places to camp, fish, hike, bike and explore for days!

McConnells Mill State Park

1761 McConnell's Mill Road

Portersville, PA 16051

This was one of my favorite places to go when the kids were wee little! There was always one in the Baby Bjorn Carrier, and the others holding hands along the trail as we did our exploring!  The reason I loved it so much was because of the many amazing views from the covered bridge to the old mill itself! As you walk along the rapids, you can't help but appreciate the beauty and blessings of nature.
