Description

We, the Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit planning committee, deeply appreciate your enthusiastic support of the Summit on Saturday, February 22, 2025! We are excited to bring the Pittsburgh community and beyond together for the 27th annual Summit in partnership with Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) , YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, and WZUM.

This year’s theme is People Power & Progress: Community Engagement for Justice & Accountability. Our goal is to engage and empower the entire community present in discussions about how to build connections and coalitions across differences to collectively work toward racial justice in Pittsburgh and beyond.

Our keynote speaker is Jasiri X, a Hip-Hop artist and activist. He is a co-founder and CEO of 1Hood Media Academy, whose mission is to build liberated communities through art, education, and social justice. He has discussed his views on Hip-Hop, race, and politics at leading institutions across the nation, including Harvard University, University of Chicago, NYU, Yale, and Stanford. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Chicago Theological Seminary. This recognition grew out of the spiritual/political urgency and artistic vision he shared on songs like “Justice For Trayvon” and “Strange Fruit”.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in various workshops focused on topics such as climate and environmental justice, equity in food systems, immigrant rights, allyship, systemic racism, and community organizing.

A distinguished panel of experts and activists will engage in a thought-provoking discussion on the current state of racial justice and the path forward.

We have two goals: 1) To motivate and inspire attendees to engage with local organizations who have been working to advance racial justice in the region, and 2) To activate attendees' commitment and empower them join these efforts by interacting directly with our speakers and facilitators.
