Women of Visions - Sweetwater Center for the Arts: Mavuno
More than 40 years in the making and truly standing the test of time as a collective. Moving with the rhythm of a passionate heartbeat.
This exhibit enlightens the spirit from deep within.
Originally established to create opportunities that had not been afforded to them in the traditional art world, this exhibit featuring local artists of color (BIPOC Artists) was started by Women of Visions, Inc. co-founded in 1981, by a diverse group of African American women in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Women of Visions Inc. is the longest-running collective of Black women visual artists in the United States.
Members of Women of Visions, Inc. work in a variety of artistic mediums, which include: Painting, fiber art, collage, mixed media, printmaking, photography, ceramics, jewelry-making, graphics design, murals, and three-dimensional works. Nearly half of the members act regularly as teaching artists.
In 2022, WOV, Inc was named a Cultural Treasure by the Ford Foundation and Heinz Endowments.
Open to the public Sept. 21 to November 2, 2024
