Join us at the Heritage and Cultural Center on Thursday, August 17 as Dr. Rob Skertich and Tom Koedel discuss the launch area for the Nike missiles (anti-aircraft guns and missiles used during the Cold War) at the current day County Police and Fire Academy as well as the accompanying radar site located on Peebles Road.
There will be two sessions: 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
***At 7:30 p.m., following the lecture sessions, Allegheny County Park Naturalist Katie Stanley will lead a hike along the Purple Trail to an area of fenceline for the Nike missile site (and hikers also will learn about North Park wildlife and plant species). The trailhead is located on Ingomar Road just east of Kummer Road. Bring a flashlight!
