Family Learning
We welcome families to explore together all that Animal Friends has to offer. Visit our Humane Education & Engagement Center, attend a class or drop in for a BunRun, all while learning about the complex and fascinating lives of the animals around us.
Humane Education & Engagement Center
All are welcome to come in and explore Animal Friends’ Humane Education & Engagement Center, which is designed to spark our younger guests’ interest in the fascinating lives of dogs, cats and rabbits as well as the multi-species world of which they are a part!
Children and accompanying caregivers are invited to explore this interactive space and engage in a variety of animal-themed learning activities together at their own pace.
What can guests expect during a visit to the Humane Education & Engagement Center?
As the themes and activities change, visitors may encounter new things to do each time. Starting with the Discovery Tree, visitors might learn about dog parasites by manipulating plush models of fleas and ticks or the stages of kitten growth with a guessing game. Through dramatic play, little ones can take on the role of veterinarian, examining and caring for stuffed animals, while older youth can learn how to time animal heart and respiration rates. At other times, learners could reflect on what dogs, cats or rabbits need to thrive while designing and decorating a paper model home that meets these needs. Or, visitors may create toys for shelter residents and connect with the idea of giving back.
