Carnegie Science Center is set to energize the first weekend of summer with a double dose of adventure. On Sat., June 22, visitors can dive into the excitement of Summer Splash during the day and extend their fun into the night with SkyWatch. Both events will captivate and inspire guests of all ages, making for an unforgettable start to the summer season.
Summer Splash: Sat., June 22 (10 am–4 pm)
Kick off the first official days of summer and dive into the vibrancy of Pittsburgh’s three rivers with a full day of exhilarating activities, games, live entertainment, and hands-on science demonstrations. Visitors will have the opportunity to:
• Build a snowman or craft a mini snowman – yes, even in summer!
• Tour the historic USS Requin (SS 481) submarine
• Discover innovative green infrastructure in the Science Center’s interactive rain garden
• Meet and learn about fish, amphibians, and reptiles native to local waterways
All activities are included with Science Center general admission, offering families the perfect way to start their summer with a blend of fun and education. The festive atmosphere will ensure that everyone finds something to enjoy, making it an ideal family outing.
SkyWatch: Sat., June 22 (9–11 pm)
As the Sun sets, the excitement continues with SkyWatch at the Science Center’s Buhl Planetarium and Observatory. Visitors can gaze up at the June Bootid Meteor Shower and explore the night sky with a feature presentation and rooftop stargazing. Ideal for a romantic date night or a fun outing with friends, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy:
• An immersive show under the dome at Buhl Planetarium
• Professional telescopes that will provide a closer look at the night sky
• Guided stargazing sessions with expert staff available to answer questions
• Views of celestial wonders including the June Bootid Meteor Shower, the brilliant star Arcturus, and the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules
The event will happen rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, activities will move indoors with an extended planetarium show. Tickets for SkyWatch are $12 per person or $10 for Carnegie Museums Members. Advanced registration is encouraged.
