Disney's "The Little Mermaid" is a Magical Delight

This Beloved Story Is A Truly Impressive Real-Action Mermaid Tale Classic In It's Own Right

Macaroni Kid Pittsburgh North was lucky enough to attend an advanced screening of Disney's "The Little Mermaid"! I must say that it did not disappoint! Halle Bailey did an amazing job in her betrayal of Ariel, the head-strong daughter of King Triton determined to uncover the mysteries of the world above!

Javier Bardem gave a valiant performance as King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King was impressive in the role of Prince Eric.  Finally, the villainous Ursula, my favorite character in the cartoon original, was perfectly entertaining as Melissa McCarthy took on the persona of the unforgettable octopod you love to hate!

If you are wondering, however, if the PG-rated remake is appropriate for the younger crowd, Common Sense Media gives many positives about the film. They cite the diversity of the cast and the positive role models in this remake as a big thumbs up for the film.

What you would need to consider most, in our opinion, is the younger crowd viewing the more violent, scarier scenes that may not be well received by those under the age of 8. It is also recommended to proceed with caution if your younger child has a strong fear of water or the ocean because of a few tumultuous water scenes.

I took my teenage daughter and her friend, and they both really enjoyed the movie and the music! Classics like Under the Sea, and Kiss the Girl have not lost their ability to charm the audience as well as Disney's introduction of some new songs like a funny, Scuttlebutt tune performed by Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs!

Of course, when you recreate something so well-known and loved as "The Little Mermaid," it's important to get it right. This especially means including all the special nuances that we fell in love with in the original, and I truly think they've done that!

So, make sure to check out Disney's "The Little Mermaid" at a theater near you! It will leave you laughing and singing those same old familiar tunes along with some new ones for the next generation of "The Little Mermaid" fans!
