When I was invited to see the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam® – Date with Destruction, my first thought was those infectious commercials I’ve seen on T.V. I don’t know about you, but that low voice is in my head long after I hear it. Even as I write this, I’m hearing it in THAT voice! In fact, I challenge you NOT to use that voice in your head as I tell you all about it.
I took my kids and their friends to the Instigator event at the Advanced Auto Parts in Crafton on Thursday.
The owner/driver, Paul Breaud couldn’t have been better with his fans! He very patiently answered all of the kids’ questions (there were many!), signed autographs and allowed photographs.
This unique opportunity allowed us to really see just how big these trucks are.
The much anticipated debut of Zombie on Friday did not disappoint! The crowd went nuts as it drove on to the course and I have to agree with a child sitting near me who described it as “scary cool”!
My boys’ favorite part had to be the Megasaurus.
They sat still in amazement as a truck transformed in to a giant dinosaur before their eyes. This fire breathing creature destroyed a car with its teeth! We could actually feel the heat of his breath from our seats.
For me, seeing their reaction was as much fun as the show!
The show itself mostly consisted of competitions between the Monster Trucks. The jump competition was a crowd pleaser and featured two trucks jumping side by side.
The skill that these drivers have is unbelievable! The winner in each competition was given a trophy, which he then gave to an audience member. It was great to see the reactions of the lucky fans.
The music and roaring engines are very loud so you may want to consider bringing ear protection for kids who are more sensitive to sound. In fact, before the Smart Car started its jet engine, (yes, I said jet!), an announcement was made stating that this was going to be the loudest portion of the show and ear protection was suggested.
This little car has jets from an army helicopter powering it! It has 1500 horsepower and has gone speeds of up to 130 mph!
Were you able to get through this without using THAT voice? If so, congratulations!
If you are looking for family friendly mayhem, then this show is for you!
