As a child matures and gets ready to enter preschool, there’s a list of skills they should be doing to help them succeed. Knowing the developmental milestones children should achieve by three-years-old can help parents prepare their little ones for the great big world of school while they’re still at home.
Here’s a list of 10 skills a three-year-old should be doing:
1. Takes turns while playing with other kids and adults and not getting frustrated.
2. Asks wh- questions, like the dreaded “why” all day and night.
3. Says their name and age when asked, even by a stranger.
4. Talks in 3, 4, and 5 word sentences.
5. Rides a tricycle by pushing the pedals on their own.
6. Copies a circle after someone has shown them how to do it.
7. Names a few colors and can point to them when asked.
8. Puts on some clothes but has an easier time taking things off.
9. Uses an open cup without spilling.
10. Masters pretend play and expands the routines to more complex situations, like playing restaurant.
