February 25, 2015

Babies Helping Babies

Pittsburgh Diaper Derby

Over 200 local babies and pre-schoolers will compete in a baby race at North Way Mall Shoppes in the North Hills to benefit needy families. The Pittsburgh Diaper Derby will be held at the former Value City Space in North Way Mall from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. Contestants 5 years old or younger are expected to raise thousands of dollars benefitting four local Charities.

On your mark, get set, …crawl. The Pittsburgh Diaper Derby is about babies “racing” to help babies. Children up to age 5 will walk, toddle or crawl their way to the finish line while raising funds for needy families in Pittsburgh. The baby sized “races” take place at North Way Mall. All contestants receive free give aways and prizes. Underwriters include S&T Bank, Lamar Advertising, Henne Jewelers, Peace Love and Little Donuts, Anderson Insurance, H&R Block, and others. All proceeds go directly to programs benefitting needy moms through the Women’s Choice Network, Young Lives Three Rivers, Choices Pregnancy Services, and Young Lives East. Many of the moms involved in these programs will have contestants entered in the Pittsburgh Diaper Derby as a way to give back to the community.

The Charities

The Women’s Choice Network and Choices Pregnancy Services offer programs uniquely designed to meet the needs of under-served families facing an unplanned pregnancy. Both organizations are medical Christ-centered ministries offering pregnancy and STD testing, ultrasound and life affirming support. Their ongoing programming transforms hundreds of families each year equipping young moms with practical, life transforming services.

Young Lives Three Rivers and Young Lives Eastaims to enable and equip young teen moms so that they can mature into self-reliant, socially responsible adults through regular programming, one-on-one mentorship, life skills training and special events. Our vision is to provide the opportunities for life changing experiences for many teens in our area.  You can make a direct impact on the path these teen mothers choose for themselves and their children. With financial support from private donors and corporations, Young Lives is able to provide programming and outreach to more families in need of guidance, mentoring, emotional support, and fellowship.
