5 Expert Painting Tips

Use A Rubber Band!

By Confluence Painting and Wallcovering September 26, 2014
Want to make a big impact with very little money?   Paint!  A fresh coat of paint will go a long way not matter if it's a whole room change or a simple trim touch up!  Use these five D.I. Y. painting tips to rejuvenate your favorite room and save you time and money! In no time, you'll be painting like the pro's at Confluence Painting and Wallcovering!

1. Wrap Your Paint Roller or Paint Brush in Plastic Wrap And FREEZE It!

If your paint project extends longer than expected go ahead and wrap your roller or paintbrush in plastic wrap and store it in an unexpected place.  The freezer.  When you're ready to paint again simply take the roller out about 15 minutes before you're set to begin!  It'll be ready to go without all the mess of cleaning out your rollers and paintbrushes after each use.

2.  Use Petroleum Jelly To Deter Paint
Painter's tape works wonders but some objects require a little more coverage.  Rub petroleum jelly over hinges, plastic outlets and other "odd" things you don’t want to get paint on.  You'll be surprised at how well this trick works!
3. Line Your Paint Tray
Want to make clean up a lot faster?  Line your paint tray!  Use something like aluminum foil or a plastic bag.  Clean up will be a cinch and you'll save some money skipping the plastic paint liners from the hardware store.
4. Soften Your Painter's Tape
Your roll of painter's tape is rock hard!  Don't throw it out!  Stick it in the microwave for about 10 seconds.  The adhesive will soften with the heat and the tape roll will be once again usable.

5.  Gum Band That Paint Can!  Or  "Rubber Band" It!
Another use for the famous Pittsburgh "gum band" or rubber band as others call it.  A rubber band gives you and easy way to wipe excess paint off your brush.  Simply string a rubber band under your paint can and across the open top. Simple and effective.
