WATER WRITING

Sometimes it just takes a little twist in an activity to make it new, fun and exciting!!  My kids love to write with chalk… it ups the fun level with all the bright colors and fun sizes of chalk we have.  Once you have them practice their spelling words by writing them on the chalkboard, have them “erase” them by taking a paint brush and water and going over the words again to erase them from the board. They may not even realize they’re still practicing!

TIP:  Make sure the paint brush is large enough to erase the chalk.  You may need something one size larger than a water color brush.
BONUS ACTIVITY:  IF we have a few warm days left, give your kids water and a standard sized paint brush and have them write their words on the sidewalk with water! This is so much fun and no mess at all! child use a paintbrush dipped in water to write their words over it.

NO MESS PAINT WRITING

(Tell me this picture isn't hysterical!! LOL)
I have a kid who doesn’t like to get his hands dirty.  He loves the idea of using shaving cream to practice spelling words BUT only lasts a few minutes doing it.  However, he loves this activity because you get the fun of not having to practice on paper but the added bonus of no mess!  All you have to do is fill a plastic storage bag with paint and they can use either their finger or a cotton swab to spell the words!
TIP:  Duct tape the top closed so it doesn’t accidentally open.  This can be used for several weeks as long as it’s stored in a safe place.

BONUS:  This is AWESOME to do with glow in the dark paint!!  Of course, the only room dark enough during the day to see it glow was our bathroom but it was still super fun!

FLAT BOTTOM MARBLES

These flat bottom marbles make for the perfect way to practice spelling words!  I found these large and small ones at The Dollar Store and wrote letters on each stone with permanent marker.  From there, all I have to do is clear a space on the floor and call out the spelling words and my daughter find the letters and spells them out.  Easy Peasy!
TIP:  If you mess up on a letter or don’t want these to have letters on them, simply use fingernail polish remover and the writing will wipe easily away.

BONUS:  Write the vowels and consonants on different color marbles to help your child distinguish between them!

 COFFEE FILTER FUN

Let your child write the words using markers on coffee filters. Once you are all done, hand them a spray bottle of water and let them turn their spelling practice into art!  They can also try to make their spelling words disappear by squirting them with TONS of water!  This one can get a little messy but it’s worth it!
TIP:  You must use washable markers for this to work best.
